Saturday was the final round of the IGF’s Espirito Trophy competition. Teams from 55 countries participated in this women’s amateur event held on two courses in Riviera Maya, Mexico. It had to have been a fun and educational four days for the players. And coaches.

Wrap-Up

In Saturday’s final round, Katja shot a solid 73 (+1). Combined with team mate Nastja Banovec’s 80 (+8), Team Slovenia shot a 153 (+9) for the day, .placing them in 42nd place.

For the day, Katja had 3 birdies, 4 bogeys and 11 pars. Her four day score of 298 (+10) placed her in a tie for 39th place, out of 163 golfers in the field. Congratulations to Katja for four days of well played golf.

In other news, Team USA finished in 6th place due to two well played rounds by Andrea Lee and Katelyn Dambaugh. Both players shot 69 (-3). That is really well done.

Team Bulgaria shot a 166 (+22) for the day and finished in 51st place.

Other Notes

  • The 55 teams are a record in participation, so far. There were two first-time entries this year; Bulgaria and Morocco.
  • This is Katja Pogacar’s 4th time competing in this biennial event. She previously played in 2010, 2012 and 2014.
  • Winner, Team Korea, was absolutely dominant. Their winning score of -29 to par was 20 strokes better than 2nd place Switzerland.
  • Although this was a “three-person” team event, Bolivia and Latvia fielded only two players each.
