Last Saturday in Bloomington, Indiana our Buckeyes fell in Women’s Volleyball competition against the Hoosiers in four sets (25-22, 25-23, 17-25, 25-23). Each of the losing sets were determined late in the set and by no more than 3 points.

Audra Appold and Taylor Sandbothe each had 21-point efforts ruined in the Buckeyes loss. Appold buried 19 kills attacking .297 while Sandbothe swung .483 to rack up 18 kills on 29 swings (four errors). Both Buckeye standouts recorded four block assists and Sandbothe added a solo stuff to her now all-time Buckeyes record.

The Buckeyes (15-11, 5-9 Big Ten) totaled 10 blocks as a team and out-dug the Hoosiers 30-to-27. The Hoosiers (16-11, 5-9 Big Ten) attacked at a better tick, however, posting a .268 efficiency ratio to .250 for Ohio State. Freshman Madison Smeathers, playing in her home state, terminating five kills on eight attempts and matched Sandbothe with a team-high five rejections.

The Buckeyes now will meet up in St. John Arena against Big Ten Conference opponents over this weekend, welcoming Rutgers Friday (tonight!) before Penn State rolls in for a Saturday night battle. Both of these Ohio State women’s volleyball matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. ET starts.
