The regular Spring schedule for Ohio State golfers is finished and it ended on a high note. The men’s team and the women’s team finished in third place in their respective B1G Championships. Additionally, four Buckeyes were honored with All-Big Ten recognition due to their accomplishments.
Will was named 2nd Team, All-Big Ten.
Grimmer is pacing the Buckeyes with a 72.03 season stroke average. He has dropped down into the 60s in nine of 30 rounds played and notched two additional scores under par. In 10 events during his sophomore campaign, Grimmer owns a pair of Top-5, three Top-10 and six Top-25 individual finishes. He has also come in as the best Buckeye scorer in six of the 10 tournaments.
Two of Will’s last three rounds have been in the 60’s. This is a fast finish to the season.
Jaclyn was named 2nd team, All-Big Ten. Jaclyn led the team in scoring with an average of 73.21. She’s rolling into the NCAA Regionals (below) on a bit of a hot streak; she has consecutive top-5 finishes in the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational and the Big Ten Championships. She may be peaking at a good time.
Katja was named 2nd team, All-Big Ten. Her scoring average was 74.04. Katja has been named All-Big Ten in all four years. She was 1st team in 2016 and 2016.
Jessica was named 2nd team, All-Big Ten. Her scoring average was 73.93. Jessica has been named All-Big Ten in all four years. She was 1st team in 2014 and 2016.
Interestingly, Katja and Jessica are only the 2nd and 3rd Buckeyes to be named all conference in all four years. Kristen White (2002-2005) was the first. A lot of good players have played in the Big Ten over the last four years, so to be named one of the top 16 performers for four consecutive years is quite an accomplishment.
Big Ten Sportsmanship Awards
Additionally, Daniel Wetterich and Rio Watanabe were recipients of Big Ten Sportsmanship Awards:
The student-athletes chosen shall be individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
That’s a nice piece of hardware to have on your mantle. Congratulations to Daniel and Rio. Well done.
