Rachel Rohanna was in Auckland, New Zealand at the McKayson New Zealand Women’s Open. Her four round total of 286 (-2) placed in T-33rd spot.
Her opening rounds on Thursday and Friday of 71-68 had her at 139 (-5) and in 18th place. So far, so good, well worth the trip. Thursday’s round was a net benefit with 4 birdies and 3 bogeys. Friday’s round was way better; 4 birdies and no bogeys!
Saturday’s third round was similar to Thursday’s – 4 birdies and 3 bogeys for a 71 (-1) that bumped Rachel up a spot to 17th.
So, entering Sunday’s final round, Rachel seemed to have the ‘4 birdies per round’ play down. Unfortunately, she may have used up her quota. Sunday’s round of 76 (+4) was a struggle. Rachel carded 5 bogeys and only 1 birdie.
I managed to get through my round last Tuesday, which was more than my cart-mate could do. The temperatures and the scores were in the mid-high 80’s. It felt good to get into the air-conditioned grill room to ‘re-hydrate’.
The front nine was a struggle with driver accuracy; I pent way too much time off the fairway identifying various types of heather. The back nine was decently well played and a par on the final hole set the stage for some Stella Artois.
I did sneak in a practice 9 holes on Friday. No need to keep score since the greens were recently aerated and were a bit – unputtable. However, I did make a few tweaks with the ball-striking and was happy with the results.
I do have a tee-time set up this Sunday at the scene of Tuesday’s crime. I’ll get a practice round in during the week. Maybe something will click…
