We’re starting to slow-roll into the 2018 golf season. Bo Hoag just finished his event a couple days ago and did – quite well.

Men’s Golf

Bo Hoag had a good weekend in the Caribbean at the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic with a four round score of 281 (-7), good for T-7th place.

Bo had a great opening round of 67 (-5), muddled around (comparatively speaking) in rounds two and three shooting par, then finished in red numbers on the final day with a -2, 70.

A lot of golfers ‘muddled’ in the middle two rounds and it took an amazing round of 65 (-7) by winner Sungjae Im to break out of the pack. Bo’s final round was solid enough to keep him in the top ten, which gave him a pretty decent payday which helped with his Tour standings.

Bo finished the tournament with 19 birdies, with seven of them on the opening round. In fact, five of them were on Thursday’s back nine when he shot a -5, 31. That’s a pretty impressive ‘closing speed’.

Congrats, Bo, nice way to open your 2018 season.

Local Golf

Earlier in the week, two of my very good friends, Frank and Mike A again met at The Dome to socialize and hit a few shots. We were joined by Mike P, who although didn’t bring his clubs, was there for advice and moral support. We finally got around to finish hitting golf balls; we seemed more interested in talking about our grandchildren. Yep. that’s where we are in our lives.

For the second week, I was hitting the ball fairly well. I was working on hitting 5 iron, 7 iron and wedge; just to work on TTR; timing, tempo, rhythm.  After we work down to the last 20 or so balls in the bucket, we have a ‘target’ competition. Pick a target, whoever is closest wins a point; rinse, repeat. For the 2nd week, I’ve done very well in the game. At this rate, I’m going to suggest we take the hitting mats to the course with us this summer.

The Dome also has a few golf simulator stalls. Next week, the four of us may get together to book some time on the simulator. I’ve never done that yet, but from what I understand, it’s like being at Pebble Beach (or wherever) without actually being there. Or something like that. I’ll let you know how it goes.
