Kay, here we go. In August, five Buckeyes teed it up as part of the LPGA Q-Series tournament. The participants were Jaclyn Lee, Rio Watanabe, Jessica Porvasnik, Katja Pogacar and Emma Jandel.
Katja, Rio and Jaclyn all made the final cut into the Stage II of this LPGA qualification marathon. The Stage II play will take place at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice, FL. Play is scheduled from October 18 – October 23. The top 15 – 25 players and ties will advance to the Q-Series that is scheduled for October 22 – November 3 at Pinehurst.
The participant list is an interesting mix of collegiate amateurs, players who are up and coming (in Symetra and LET Tours) and players who are hoping to rejuvenate their careers.
This is a new format for an LPGA qualifier, so I’m not sure how this will play out. I haven’t been tracking Rio this summer, but she has played well in a few local (Ohio) tournaments. Jaclyn has had a good summer playing at a high level in various international tournaments. Katja has had a solid “freshman: summer on the Ladies European/ACCESS Tours. The qualifier in Venice will be fun to watch.
As mentioned above, the Stage II of the Q-School will take place in late October – early November. I’ll have recap of the exploits of Katja, Rio and Jaclyn in that time frame. Stay tuned.
