The Ohio State University Men’s Rugby team headed to Happy Valley this past Saturday (the 28th) to meet up with Penn State. There was hope, even following the loss the past weekend to Notre Dame.
It all began ….. not quite to the Buckeye’s liking ….
Five minutes into the match Penn State scored on a try with a presentation of what would eventually prevail – quick & fast, with a power surge. The kick thereafter would not be any good. Penn State 5-0.
It was not long after Penn State scored again on a power plunge to the right corner. Suddenly the Buckeyes were behind 10-0. The conversion would be good, and Penn State led 12-0.
Penn State scored yet again, having their way, off a line out and maul, the conversion was not good (did it matter?) It was suddenly 17-0 with 10 minutes in the first.
Unexplainably, Penn State broke away with two, back-to-back tries, none of which seemed to be coming….. but they did….it was now 31-0 Penn State as the half ended.
The 2nd half was a lack-luster on both ends. But the hold the Buckeyes figured out following the half was mute, if not, painlessly, meaningless. Nothing happened.
The final was 31-0 in favor opf the Nittany Lions.
The Buckeyes fell to 3-2 as they now focus on the University of Illinois in Campaign next Saturday (10/06) @ 1:00 p.m.
Go Buckeyes ….
