The Ohio State women’s volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision (27-25, 25-23, 25-12) to Maryland inside St. John Arena on Saturday night, which was also Senior Night. The latest setback – the eighth loss in a row – drops the Buckeye Squad to 12-16 overall and 3-13 in the Big Ten. Maryland improves to 17-11 and 8-8 in conference play.

Vanja Bukilić tallied a match-high 15 kills for her 23rd appearance in the double figures arena. Bia Franklin whittled in eight kills and six digs while Camryn Moeller added a career-best five kills. Lauren Witte had four kills and two blocks while Olivia Dailey notched 16 assists, two service aces and two digs.

Becca Mauer did a little bit of everything behind 19 assists, five kills, three digs and two rejections. Defensively, Camry Halm was one shy of her career mark with 16 digs and Hannah Gruensfelder dug six balls.

SET 1: There was no intimidation facing either team as a trading of points in the opening frame, resulted in 16 ties. Maryland scored three straight for a 19-16 edge to force a Buckeye timeout. The Buckeyes did leap back into it with a 6-1 run, which locked the score at 25-all. Maryland notched the last two points for a 27-25 win.

SET 2: The Buckeyes got off onto a nice roll with a 10-7 lead but the Terps quickly made up for whatever mistakes they had mustered – and just as quick as the Buckeyes rolled off to a fast start, Maryland had a 14-12 advantage. Ohio State battled back to even it up 20 each. Maryland then called a timeout with a one-point lead and used a kill – which clinched the set at 25-23.

SET 3: Two Ohio State blocks and a Maryland error got the Buckeyes within one, 8-7, but Maryland pulled away for a strong finish; 25-12.

UP NEXT: In need of a desperate win the Buckeyes now are off to meet both Wisconsin (Nov. 16th) and Minnesota (Nov. 17th). The Badgers are nationally ranked at 7th while the Golden Gophers fit into the 4th spot on the national ranking scale.
