COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University’s women’s volleyball team fell to the 7th ranked Wisconsin Badgers in straight sets (25-10, 25-14, 25-23) Friday night at St. John Arena. The Buckeyes are now 12-17 overall and 3-14 in the Big Ten while the Badgers improve to 19-6 overall and 12-5 in league play. It is the Buckeyes ninth straight loss.
Bia Franklin led the team with eight kills. Lauren Witte wasn’t shy in participation, as she placed into action with seven kills and three blocks. Becca Mauer hit .312 (6-1-16) and dug nine balls. Olivia Dailey joined in with 26 assists, four digs and three rejections while Adria Powell notched three kills and tied her career mark with three service aces. Camry Halm added eight digs to the stat sheet.
SET 1: Powell served up back-to-back aces as the Buckeyes trailed 13-6. Wisconsin ste the sails at full steam ahead, thus, taking the set, 25-10.
SET 2: The Badgers jumped out to a 9-5 lead to open things up here in the 2nd. The Buckeyes gave it a valid try with a rally following a pair of kills by Witte and Powell, cutting the deficit to 17-9. The Badgers would go onto winning the set 25-14.
SET 3: The Buckeyes got things rolling early for an 11-8 advantage. But Wisconsin made that all up when they tied the score at 21-all. Kills by Franklin and Mauer helped the Buckeyes stay close but Wisconsin secured a 25-23 decision.
Ohio State will play its final match in St. John Arena when it takes on No. 3 Minnesota on Saturday at 7 p.m.
